"Airport Perimeter is an album about distance, obscurity, and the crushing weight of uncertainty.
Over the year and a half of spontaneously working on this, naturally a lot has happened. I got a job, I got sick three times (not from COVID fortunately), I got more music equipment, I’ve been interacting with the local music scene more, close friends are working on new projects, I myself started filling my plate more with extra projects, my family is helping plan for a wedding, I started taking a gap year at my university, and a bunch of other things. I’d say some of it helped change the ultimate sound of this record, as miniscule as those changes may be. I guess what I really want to say is I’m sorry for not finishing it much sooner. I couldn’t contribute to either of Vivarium Recordings’s previously released Selected Brobient Works volumes and Yena Record Company’s third Noise Jam because my attention at those times was completely focused on this project instead. It was originally intended as a song for Selected Brobient Works, Vol. 1. It was planned to be eight minutes, but then those eight minutes turned into twelve, and then those twelve into fourteen, and those fourteen into twenty-six, until it eventually morphed into this sprawling mass longer than the average record. So here it is. The mildly anticipated Idle Cars brone album. Better late than never. I guess it’s better fitting having it released over a year after brone’s inception due to the stylistic deviations from the microgenre’s typical standards. At least from what I’ve heard it’s pretty different. Either way I’m glad with how it turned out. It means a lot to me. Most of the music I want to make focuses around my life, or more generally just being alive. This is a fairly good start I think. I’d be embarrassed to elaborate on it much outside of the music. I've done plenty of drafting and redrafting of an in-depth explanation of the album that continuously spilled out of control over the course of several paragraphs and pages but ultimately I decided to scrap that. Maybe one day I'll become more adept at explaining the significance of this. I think the recommended further listening gives a bit of a good idea of what I was trying to do so check that out if you’re interested. Anyway the album’s finally here. Prepare to have oodles of fun. Hooray.
Here's a little blurb I wrote down once that compliments it. Not really a poem or anything, just something I noted down for potential further use, with included dramatic breaks. I was debating whether or not to trim it down and use it as lyrics but I ultimately decided not to:
"One morning driving home from work
A road ends with an intersection
Only a hundred or so meters from the airport fence
Turning left is the only way to turn
Turning right leads to a narrow path guiding you inside
As I made my way down there I passed by a man cycling
Making my left turn I looked in my mirror and saw him going the other direction
He made his way onto the forbidden path, where he got off his bike
Had it at his side as he walked
Further and further into sacred ground
And leaves my mirror"
